Unlike many threats to patient safety, those involving epidural-IV mix-ups are well understood and can be prevented according to the ISMP (Institute for Safe Medical Practices) in their article "Epidural-IV route mix-ups: Reducing the risk of deadly errors." ISMP recommends to clearly label infusion bags and syringes that contain epidural medications with "For Epidural Use Only" in a large font, and to use color and design to differentiate these preparations from IV medications.  Our patented label designs clearly highlights Epidural-Use Only  with yellow font color in a red box design to help clinicians reduce errors associated with proper route of administration.
